27th March Cartoon Art with Phoenix Morris
A lovely, fun informative evening. Phoenix used the projector to guide us through a brief history of cartoon art before asking us to copy an image of Spongebob. We then had to turn the page and re draw him from memory. Phoenix then explained about drawing markers and how a character gets built and can be modified using markers. Next task was to re draw spongebob using the these guidelines.
Phoenix explained how Cartoon characteristics get accentuated, ie soft rounder forms look friendlier and harsh angles do not. We should be able to tell a character even if in silhouette, Scooby Doo characters for example. Our last challenge was to create our own character, then swap with someone else and re draw their creation.
5th March-Lindsay Norman small demo & chat.
A truly inspirational evening watching Lindsay at work.
The two pieces shown below were created to demonstrate how different forms of charcoal can be utilised to bring the owls to life. Lindsay gave us lots of incite and advice. John has suggested we all have a go with charcoal next week.
